In Modern Art, you are the head of a world-famous museum. You and your fellow curators are looking to get one of the best deals on various pieces of artwork. Using different auction styles, you buy and sell artwork from five different artists. It’s not just the paintings, themselves, that are valuable. As an artist gets more of their works sold, the overall value of their collection will go up. But the art world is fickle, one season, an artist might be hot, and the next they’re passé. Keep track of the trends if you want to stay ahead of the competition.

After four rounds of auctions, the player who has amassed the most wealth for their museum is declared the winner. This updated version of the Renier Knizia classic includes tightened rules for the auctions, as well as artwork from some of the world’s most talented contemporary artists. The rulebook contains biographies about each artist and examples of their amazing works.

How to play?:

In modern art, players take on the role of curators, buying and selling paintings for their museum. Over the course of four rounds, they take part in a number of auctions, trying to get the best value for the pieces in their collection. Whoever makes the most money wins the game (and keeps their job).
